BREAK FAST
July of 2017
At the end of Ramadan, after a month of fasting during daylight hours, Muslims celebrate Eid Al-Fitr—the festival of the breaking of the fast.
In the villages of Oman's interior, this often means slaughtering several goats, wrapping them in leaves, burying them in the ground, and smoking them overnight. The joy of the feast is palpable.
When my host used the jaw bone of the goat to pry open its skull so that I could try some goat brain, I couldn’t very well say no, could I?
