SUMMER
2021 - 2022
Nassau, The Bahamas

It is typically in the middle of the week when, in the absence of the cruise ship tourists and the weekend crowds, Bahamians and their families often have the warm waters and soft sand much more to themselves.

The scenes of families spending time together on these public beaches in the late afternoon sun reminded me somewhat of my own childhood, when my brother and I would go swimming in the cold currents of the Pacific Ocean on the (less pristine and less picturesque) beaches of Tijuana, Mexico in the 1990s.

Splashing in the waves, nothing else mattered; nothing else even existed—just the salt and the sand and the sea. Those memories are a bit blurry now. But they are somehow still perfect, at least for me.
